NMR Spectroscopy in the Study of Carbohydrates: Characterizing the Structural Complexity

چکیده

The combination of structural diversity at several levels and limited chemical shift dispersion ensures that NMR spectra of carbohydrates are relatively difficult to interpret. This introduction to applications of NMR spectroscopy for the study of carbohydrates provides guidelines for interpretation of their 1and 2-D spectra against a background of their tautomeric, configurational, and conformational equilibria in solution and consideration of their biosynthetic diversity. The influence of structural features on chemical shifts and coupling constants is illustrated by the consequences for both homoand heteronuclear 2-D NMR spectra. Some applications of NMR spectroscopy for studies of carbohydrate metabolism are briefly considered. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Concepts Magn Reson Part A 19A: 1–19, 2003

Applicability of GPC, GC-MS and 13C NMR techniques and DFRC method in comparative structural studies of Lignin

In this research, the characteristics of CMP dioxane lignin (hardwood origin) and soda bagasse lignin (ethanol soluble fraction) and dioxane lignin of bagasse were studied using gel permeation chromatography, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and 13C NMR spectroscopy and DFRC degradation procedure. The results indicated that the main structural units in lignins are phenyl propane skeletons b...

Solvent Effect on the Molecular Structure, Chemical Reactivity and Spectroscopy Properties of Z-Ligustilide: A Main Active Component of Multitude Umbelliferae Medicinal Plants

In this investigation, the structural, electronic properties, 13C and 1H NMR parameters and firsthyperpolarizability of Z-Ligustilide were explored. As well, the solvent effect on structural parameters, frontier orbital energies, electronic transitions, and 13C and 1H NMR parameters was illustrated based on Polarizable Continuum Model (PCM).These consequences specify that the polarity of solven...

NMR studies of protein folding

NMR spectroscopy is the method of choice for determining the structural details of unfolded and partially folded states of proteins. Here, the utility of NMR spectroscopy in characterizing such disordered states which populate protein folding pathways, is discussed. The relevance of the structural information obtained to protein folding mechanisms is examined critically. NMR spectroscopy can no...

Metabolomics-Based Study of Logarithmic and Stationary Phases of Promastigotes in Leishmania major by 1H NMR Spectroscopy

Background: Cutaneous leishmaniasis is one of the most important parasitic diseases in humans. In this disease, one of the responsible organisms is Leishmania major, which is transmitted by sandfly vector. There are specific differences in biochemical profiles and metabolite pathways in logarithmic and stationary phases of Leishmania parasites. In the present study, 1H NMR spectroscopy was used...

HPLC-SPE-NMR: a productivity tool in natural products research

Natural products provide excellent potential leads for drug development because of their chemical diversity and biological functionality. However, the productivity of discovery of new, pharmacologically active natural products has traditionally been low due to inherent difficulties and costs associated with extract dereplication, i.e., isolation, purification and structure elucidation of indivi...
